Brantley County Football Wrapup
While the Brantley Heron football team may not have made an anticipated repeat performance to the State Play Off scene, this was indeed a year of football that will be featured in the history books for years to come. A Brantley team that played as a team, one for all and all for one, an exceptional group of young men, many who will greatly be missed on the field next year. Â The Heron team and coaching staff that repeatedly, not only out played but often out smarted many of their opponents, took risks when they needed them and played safe when it counted most, came from behind and won games, caught uncatchable passes, came from huddles with obvious recoveries, a team who ran fast and hit hard and kept fans on the edge of their seats and on their feet for weeks.
The Herons not only impressed local fans but Coaches of other region 2AA teams as well, receiving it’s most ever region awards the history of the Heron team and even a state recognition for one player.
Exceptional Honors for the BCHS Heron team included the announcement of #91 Senior Ryan Middleton being named by Region 2’s   Special Teams player of the year for 2009. Junior quarterback #2 Devon Blankenship was not only named Region 2AA’s Offensive Player of the Year, he was also named to the State Honorable Mention Team for his achievements of the 2009 season.Â
 Honorable Mention team for Region 2AA includes: #58 Charles Blankenship and #69 Mikel  Duenas on the Offensive Line, #62 Patrick Hatcher as Linebacker, Charles Blankenship on the Defensive Line, #22 Cameron Martin as a Defensive Back and #11 Ryan Brown as Punter.
Region 2AA Second team includes: Running Backs #1 Ryan Blount, #25 Ryan Cox, and Wide Receiver: #21 Jamison Williams, Offensive Line: #62 Cameron Hammett, Center #61 Max Stieve, and Defensive Backs: #5 E.J. Thomas, #15 Garrick Jackson, and Linebacker #27 Robert Spradley.
Region 2AA First team includes Seniors #33 Joey Neice as Defensive Lineman and #12 Seth Hendrix as Wide Receiver.
The Region All Academic Team Is achieved essentially on the grade point averages of the students. The Senior group receiving this honor includes the following: Seth Hendrix, Ryan Brown, Mikel Duenas, Max Stieve, Ryan Middleton, and Joey Neice. The Junior Group includes Garrick Jackson and Caleb Lucree. The largest group of scholars includes sophomores: Stanley Pendergrass, Cameron Martin, Walker Carter, Jamison Williamson, Stanley Pendergrass, Kyler Lee, EJ Thomas, Aaron Beck, Taran Parrish, and Ryan Blount.
Team yearly awards were presented beginning with the 2009 Coach’s Award which was presented to Senior #62 Cameron Hammett and the 2010 Senior Award which was presented to #61 Max Stieve. The Scout team receipt ants include #24 Dylan Hick ox for offense and #3 Dantryll Lucas for the defense. Most improvement awards were received by #73 Matt Dean as Most Improved Offensive Player and dual awards were chosen for the Most Improved Defensive players: #15 Garrick Jackson and #33 Joey Neice.
A Special thank you acknowledgement was given to Team Pastor Joey Taylor, the Brantley County Touchdown Club President Glenn Hendrix, and the Coaching staff, of which 2010 Seniors gave their own special recognition.
