Do the Wayne County Yellow Jackets already have a coach?  Well...thats up for debate and according to who you talk to.  But I'm not writing this to break a story about who the next coach will be or who I think he should be.  Theres a man already in the school who has been coaching the Jackets for the past two years.  His defenses have been the strong suit of the team.  The kids want to play for him and will run through brick walls if he asks.  Vic Parker may be on the young side....and hes never had head coaching experience.  But you won't find anyone in Jesup who has a bad word to say about him.  From the people in the school to the members of the community.  Coach Parker really knows how to get the boys fired up on gamenights and when he got freedom to do so....really could turn up the intensity on defense.  His players respnded to his style of coaching...and by his players...I mean our players...the ones we all want to see succeed on the field.  Success on Friday nights starts with BELIEVING you can win rather than HOPING.  After hearing things and seeing how things went this past year...I'm not sure we ever believed we could win on Friday nights and when we did...it was a shock to the players at times.  But what I do know is Coach Parker took the reins of a leadership role in the second half of the season and incidentally....we began to play better.  Thats the mark of someone who knows what they are doing.  Having their players ready to play and knowing how to get them ready.  I'm not sure Coach Daniel ever did that. 

One thing about Coach Parker that tells you he likes it in Wayne County is the fact he hasn't taken another job yet....and I know hes been offered some other positions at other schools.  He runs the zero period weightlifting class...which starts at 7 AM....keep in mind as well Coach Parker doesn't live in Wayne County....he lives in Glynn.  So what I'm telling you is this man is willing to get up before daylight everyday and drive 45 minutes to let our players lift weights.  And guess what else...hes still doing it....even after Coach Daniel was let go.  What does that tell you?  

Again...I did not write this article to endorse anyone for the job.  I have faith that the best person available will be hired.  But I do feel like we would be doing ourselves an injustice if we didn't at least take a quick look at someone already in the system.  I mean...who knows our players and community better...someone who has been there the past few years....or someone who lives two hours away?
